In the event of an emergency; please call 911

For non-emergency; please call the Mesa Police Department Non-Emergency number
(480) 644-2211

Select Option “2” if you need an officer to respond; are calling to report a crime; suspicious persons, vehicles or activity; criminal damage; etc.  You do not have to listen to the entire menu if this is the option you want; just push “2” on your phone and you will be connected to a call taker.  If you do not have a touchtone phone, you can also just stay on the line and, after going through the menu, it will connect you to the next available call taker.

The Mesa Police Department Non-Emergency number has been upgraded in an effort to better serve the public.  When you call this number, you will hear the following options to choose from:

1  – is for Spanish
2  – is for an MPD Officer (To report a crime, if you need an officer, etc.)
3  – is for Law Enforcement (if you are a law enforcement agency)
4  – is for Holding (jail)
5  – is for Police Records (request a police report, etc.)
6  – is for Alarm Companies
7  – is for Animal Control
8  – is to leave a voicemail for an officer (have their ID number ready)
9  –  is to repeat the menu
OR you can stay on the line to get an Operator

Trash and Recycling

Trash (black bins) is collected every Monday.  Recycling (blue bins) is collected every other Thursday.

Holiday Reminder: Trash & recycle collection service is provided on all holidays.  Please have barrels at the curb by 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.

Trash should be bagged, but recycling should not.  Recycling items should be clean, dry and empty.  Lids and labels need not be removed.

The list for what is recyclable vs. what is not recyclable is much shorter, so if it’s not on the list…it is not recyclable in the blue bins.

Need a bin replaced?  Contact the Main Gate (480) 373-5702

Beverage bottles, jugs and cans:

  • Empty, clean and dry.
  • Examples include water, soda and juice bottles, beer and wine bottles and aluminum beverage cans.
  • Plastic milk and juice jugs, but not paper cartons.

Metal Food Cans:

  • Empty, clean and dry
  • Examples include soup cans, vegetable cans, canned fruit cans, pet food cans, etc.
  • Labels do not need to be removed.

Paper:

  • Only these types of paper:
    • Mail & junk mail (postcards, coupons, solicitation flyers, etc.)
    • Office paper (copy paper, envelopes, writing paper)
    • Magazines
    • Newspaper (including inserts)

NOTE: Due to the limitations of the sorting equipment used at the Materials Recovery Facility, shredded paper is no longer able to be accepted.

Cardboard:

  • Corrugated cardboard only (has a wavy center layer)
  • Remove ALL packaging (plastic air pouches, Styrofoam, etc.)
  • Break down all boxes to maximize space in your barrel

NOTE: Cereal, tissue, cracker and other similar types of boxes are made from paperboard material and unfortunately are no longer accepted.

What happens if I place non-accepted items in the recycle container?

Placing non-accepted items in the recycle container, even with good intentions, has a negative effect.  The City of Mesa’s vendors have the right to impose substantial penalty fees and even reject loads of material that are contaminated which can further jeopardize Mesa’s recycling program.  It also increases paying unnecessary processing fees.
